Tongue and groove
flooring |
| |
| Bamboo hardwood
flooring is designed and manufactured in two configurations;
flat pressed and side pressed. The strips used in each
configuration are precision milled to a .5 centimeter
thickness to insure an optimum balance of forces in the
finished board. |
| |
|
 |
To insure dimensional stability, this material is
precision milled with tongue and
groove on the sides as well as the ends. It can be top-
nailed, glued-down or "floated".
In this flat-pressed three-ply tongue and groove flooring
example, the prepared strips of bamboo are carefully
stacked in three layers and then placed side by side to
form a three-ply board. |
| |
|
 |
There is no overlapping of
the strips in the three layers. Overlapping strips in
the finished board, the result of a manufacturing
technique that cuts many boards from large laminated
sheets, is a common practice that increases the
potential for distortion and delamination in the
finished board. |
| |
|
|
In this side-pressed
tongue and groove flooring example, the prepared 0.5cm
strips of
bamboo are turned on edge and carefully arranged to
balance natural bending forces before being pressed
together in a "single" layer. |
|
|
 |
| |
|
|
The flat-pressed style of
flooring presents as quite visually "open" with the
nodes appearing as randomly placed delicate brush
strokes. The side pressed material is more dense in
appearance, some would say less delicate. The choice
is a matter of style with consumer interest in each
type being about equal. |
